‘Keepers of the Kalachakra’ the latest from Ashwin is unlike any of his previous works.
To me 3 things stands out:
1. The interweaving of Science, Art, and Mythology is exemplary. I bet Ashwin has burnt many many midnight lamps over the manuscript.
2. The plot never thins, not until till the last printed page is reached. It’s akin peeling an onion, albeit a solid and large one.
3. Ashwin always concots plots with theatricality but this one is pure – flows mellifluously; yet is dark, intense, captivating, and enthralling.
Have chomped every single book Ashwin has ever published, what stands out for our man is him getting better with every new piece of work. Think ‘Wine bottle in a cask’ – simplifying it like Brahmananda 😀
Think this book is his best work to date.
Though Ashwin keeps dabbling across formats, Thirteen series, Private series. To my opinion those are all ‘tactical Gap fillers’. Ashwin is best, almost unparalleled when he creates his own concoction, blends it, matures it and presents it to create another masterpiece.
He always thanks the ‘Divine Maa’ to keep the ink flowing from his pen and I would agree. Without her blessings, it’s almost impossible to recreate something as amazing the ‘Kalachakra’.
The book has more than a dozen characters and they all get introduced in first few chapters, one still doesn’t find it difficult to recollect on mention later because of the unique ‘pen picture’ that Ashwin creates for them.
The story runs across the Globe and concludes in India – the book is an ode to Indian Mythology, History, and ancient Science. It reflects on how poor are we at knowing our lineage and humongous amount of Knowledge that our forefathers have left for us to build on. This I guess is partly because of obsession with the West and assumption that they are gospels.
Our National pride has definitely gone down in last century, West World passed us as land of snake charmers and our inventions and discoveries as musings. The books attempts to bring out our glorious past while building up on what’s out there and is most accepted from West. This is very like ‘ Amish’.
I will stay off the story line, don’t want to take the edge off from Ashwin’s devotees who are still waiting to lay their hands on this masterpiece.
As immaterial as it gets, I recommend it as a definite read!
To me it was such pleasure to have started 2018 with an amazing read. Thanks a lot ‘Ashwin Saar’ for this priceless piece.
